Roland Mayer-Sams

Teacher of Folk MusicDepartment of Music Education Salzburg

Roland Mayer-Sams teaches diatonic harmonica at Mozarteum University Salzburg. Alongside his teaching, he is an active performer of Alpine folk music and a leading figure in folk music education, combining his artistic practice with extensive teaching and professional development activities throughout Austria and neighbouring regions.

Mayer-Sams studied Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy at Mozarteum University Salzburg, specialising in diatonic harmonica and chromatic dulcimer, graduating in 2009. Since 2005, he has taught at the Upper Austrian State Music School, where he has headed the Folk Music Department since 2012. In addition to his work at the Mozarteum, he is a regular lecturer at professional development courses in Austria, Bavaria and South Tyrol.


As a performer, Mayer-Sams appears both as a soloist and as a member of the ensembles Tennriedlmusi and Hochwies Klarinettenmusi.
