Markus Obereder
Markus Obereder is a choral and orchestral conductor, music educator and lecturer in choral and ensemble conducting at Mozarteum University Salzburg. He is committed to the idea that making music together plays a vital role in personal development and social learning, and should occupy a central place in education. Alongside his university teaching, he conducts the symphony orchestra of the Mozart Musikgymnasium Salzburg and performs as a singer and instrumentalist with the Ballaststofforchester.
Obereder studied Music Education, Instrumental Music Education, and choral and orchestral conducting with Walter Hagen-Groll at Mozarteum University Salzburg and Louisiana State University. He has also participated in masterclasses with Eric Ericson, Peter Gülke, Martin Sieghart and Jorma Panula.
As a conductor, he has worked with the Salzburg Bach Choir, Salzburg Chamber Choir, Juvenis Choir, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Austrian Ensemble for New Music (ÖENM), ensemble sonare, the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the orchestra and choirs of the Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg. He has collaborated with artists including Cecilia Bartoli, Leopold Hager, Ivor Bolton, Johannes Kalitzke, Howard Arman, René Jacobs, Benjamin Schmid and Bobby McFerrin. At the Mozarteum, he teaches choral conducting, ensemble conducting and music education didactics, and directs one of the department's choirs.
In addition to his work at the Mozarteum, Obereder directs the symphony orchestra of the Mozart Musikgymnasium Salzburg and has conducted concerts in Italy, France, Germany and India. He is Artistic Director of the International Choir Seminar at Schloss Zell an der Pram. As a singer and instrumentalist, he is also a member of the Ballaststofforchester, which performs throughout the German-speaking world and has released several recordings for ORF.
