On February 3, 2021, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg launched a unique program: a series of master classes to deepen the study of Baroque music, beginning in the summer of 2021.
"The transmission of historical cultural heritage through the universal language of music promotes communication, cultural exchange, education as well as social inclusion. This initiative will allow us to build a common development strategy through music for a better and sustainable future. I hope that this synergy will be consolidated and developed in the coming years through the expansion of teaching and concert performances, as well as the wide participation of baroque music lovers from all over the world. ", says Carlo Rossi, President of the Accademia Chigiana.

in 2021, the Baroque Summer Academy will be held in Siena from August 30 to September 5, 2021, as part of the 90th Chigiana Summer Academy, with five courses led by professors from the University Mozarteum Salzburg: Baroque oboe by Alfredo Bernardini, harpsichord by Florian Birsak, transverse flute by Marcello Gatti, viola da gamba by Vittorio Ghielmi and Baroque voice by Andreas Scholl. Vittorio Ghielmi, director of the Institute of Early Music of the University Mozarteum Salzburg, is enthusiastic about this project: " I am very grateful and proud to find in this agreement two aspects that characterize my professional and personal life: as director of the Institute at the Mozarteum, the mission as a musician and artist, and as an Italian, the connection with the cultural tradition of the cities of Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Rossini. Mozarteum stories – dialogue with the past

The Platform on Politics of the Past at the Mozarteum University Salzburg deals with cultures of remembrance from the 1920s to the 1990s. The critical reflection on the university's political past, especially during the periods of Austrofascism, National Socialism and the post-war era, plays just as important a role as art projects against forgetting and for greater awareness. Researchers are currently conducing a citizen research project that invites the local community to share relevant documents and contemporary accounts.

New Supplementary Certificate: Art & Sustainability

Competence in sustainability is competence for the future. Artists and educators carry a great responsibility but also have great potential for not only reflecting on social change but also contributing to it. The start of academic year 2025/2026 brings with it the start of a new elective studies block in Art & Sustainability, for which students can obtain a supplementary certificate. It offers the chance to explore the complex relationship between sustainable developments in our university and society at large, and artistic and scholarly practice.
