Bartolo Musil is internationally active as a singer and composer, vocal pedagogue and coach. Since 2015 he is Univ.-Prof. at the Thomas Bernhard Institute of the Mozarteum University.
As a concert and opera singer - with a repertoire ranging from the early baroque to experimental contemporary music theater - Bartolo Musil has appeared in the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, in the Berlin Philharmonic, the Frankfurt Opera, at the Carinthian Summer and with other important European organizers, working with important Orchestras, conductors and directors together. With the title role in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo he achieved particular success with audiences and critics and was listed by Opera Now magazine as one of the discoveries of the year. In 2007, the Italian record company Bongiovanni released his first solo CD Virtuosity - il Baritono Barocco. Bartolo Musil sang Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute and Pluto in Georg Philipp Telemann's Orpheus at the Magdeburg Theater as well as numerous premieres of contemporary composers in operas and concerts. At the Carinthian Summer 2017 he was engaged as a singer and composer in the program Lebenszeichen. At the Musiktage Mondsee 2017 he interpreted the Ode to Napoleon by Arnold Schönberg. In 2019, Bartolo Musil was engaged, among other things, as a speaker in Helmut Lachenmann's The Match Girl at the Zurich Opera House. As a composer, Bartolo Musil has commissioned works in large casts for organizers such as the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna and a commissioned opera for the Carinthian Summer. Some of his works have been produced for radio and sound carriers. Bartolo Musil also conducts artistic research in the field of music and received his doctorate in 2014 from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. His book "Wie ein Begehren" - Language and music in the interpretation of vocal music (not only) from the fin de siècle was published in autumn 2018 by [transcript] Verlag.
