Andreas Mendel

Andreas Mendel began his musical education at a young age, singing with the Knabenchor Hannover (Hannover Boys’ Choir) under the direction of Heinz Hennig. He took his first oboe lessons with Peter Kiggen, later studying with Prof. Müller-Brincken (Würzburg) and Prof. Abbühl (Mannheim). He has been solo oboist with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz since 2009.

He is a regular guest with renowned orchestras such as the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburg State Opera, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Tonkünstler Orchestra and the Camerata Salzburg.

Alongside his orchestral work, he has a passionate interest in chamber music; at the centre of his activities in this field are his performances with the Ketos Quintett, of which he is a founding member. He is frequently invited to share his expertise with talented young musicians through masterclasses and chamber music courses.

He has achieved international recognition through his oboe method books, Technical Basics of the Oboe (available in Major, Minor, Junior and Master editions), which have become established as standard works in the repertoire of many oboists.

Andreas Mendel was appointed Senior Lecturer in Oboe (Instrumental Pedagogy) at the Mozarteum University in the winter semester of 2025/26.
