Salzburg's Music History in the Sign of Provincialism?
As a result of conquest, secularization and loss of importance, familiar conditions in Salzburg were profoundly reshaped at the beginning of the 19th century. The consequences were correspondingly lasting for the cultural life of the city, the musical side of which had been only incompletely researched until then. Seventeen detailed contributions illuminate the period after the political upheavals up to the founding of the Cathedral Music Society and the Mozarteum. Themes are the continued sacred musical life after secularization, the life and work of contemporary composers in and from Salzburg, but also the gradual emergence of the Mozart cult in the city.
