Fausto Quintabà

Fausto Quintabà is a répétiteur at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Tyrolean State Conservatory Innsbruck. Alongside his work with singers, he is active as a conductor and as a pianist specialising in contemporary music, performing internationally as both soloist and chamber musician.

Fausto Quintabà (b. 1977 in Palermo) received his early musical training with the pianist and composer Marcello Biondolillo at the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in his home town, graduating with distinction. He went on to win numerous national and international competitions and attended masterclasses with Aquiles Delle Vigne, Milan Škampa, Andrea Nannoni and Rocco Filippini, as well as studying at the Accademia Musici Artis in Rome and the Accademia Musicale Pescarese with Bruno Mezzena and Pierluigi Camicia.

In 2000, he began working as a répétiteur and pianist with the orchestra of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. In 2004, he won first prizes at five international competitions together with the clarinettist Gaspare Vittorio Buonomano. In 2007, he completed a second piano diploma at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Claudius Tanski, graduating with distinction.

Quintabà has been a répétiteur at the Tyrolean State Conservatory Innsbruck since 2008 and has been a member of the Department of Vocal Studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2015. He studied conducting with Tito Ceccherini and currently conducts the Orchestra Telfs.

As a pianist, he is particularly active in contemporary music and has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in Austria, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Zimbabwe, Iran, Colombia and Italy. He has collaborated with conductors including Peter WesenAuer, Tito Ceccherini, Johannes Kalitzke, Gerhard Sammer, Francesco Angelico and David Danzmayr.

He has taken part in numerous world premieres and has collaborated with ensembles such as the Salzburg Classical Quintet, Trio Broz, Piano meets Percussion, the Austrian Ensemble for New Music and Ensemble Acrobat, of which he is artistic director. He has also performed with Wolfgang Holzmair. In 2005 and 2006, he appeared at the opening of the Salzburg Festival.

As a répétiteur, he has worked with artists including Alois Brandhofer, Joseph Steinböck, Peter Langgartner, Ulrike Sych, Claudia Visca, Elisabeth Wilke, Andreas Macco, David Frühwirt and Peter Gülke at the Mozarteum Summer Academy.

As a soloist, he has performed piano concertos by Mozart, Beethoven, Hindemith, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov. His recordings include several CDs for the labels Urania and Orlando Wien, with chamber music partners such as Lito Fontana, Hans Gansch, Dario Zingales, Damiano Scarpa and Francesca Canali.
