Marco-Antonio Diaz-Tamayo
Marco Tamayo is the winner of several important international competitions such as the Andres Segovia in Granada and the Michele Pittaluga, Cita di Alessandria, in Italy. He was a student of Antonio Alberto Rodriguez and Leo Brouwer in Cuba and studied in Austria with Eliot Fisk (guitar), Reiner Schmidt (violin), Anthony Spiri (harpsichord) and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, among others.He recorded several albums for the Naxos label and has been teaching classical guitar at the Mozarteum University as well as at the Landeskonservatorium in Klagenfurt since 2001. In 2006 he received the "venia docendi" from the Mozarteum University.
Hailed as "Il Re della Chitarra" by Italian newspaper La stampa, Marco Tamayo is praised for his expressive interpretations and technical ability. His book entitled "Principles of the classical guitar performance" was published by Chanterelles in 2009.
Tamayo has undertaken extensive tours throughout Europe, Asia, the USA, South Africa and Mozambique, performing with famous orchestras and conductors such as Kurt Redel, Paolo Ferrara, Damian Iorio, Phillipe Bender, Leo Brouwer, Alexis Soriano, Rail Gutierres and others, as well as with orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Aix en Provence, the Philharmonic of Turin, the Chamber Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the Philharmonic of Havana, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Havana and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Venice. Petersburg, Havana Philharmonic, Tampere Philharmonic, Oulu Philharmonic, both in Finland, TransArt Orchestra of Salzburg, Ars Musicae from Klagenfurt, Sinfonica de UANL in Monterrey, Mexico, etc.
Tamayo made his debut at the Chopin Pleyel Hall in Paris and is the founder of the Salzburg Guitar Society. He also received the "Mauro Giuliani Prize" from the Giuliani family for the best interpretation of the Italian composer's music. He is a regular juror at international guitar competitions such as the Michele Pittaluga Int. guitar competition in Italy; international Volos Guitar Competition in Greece; Luy's Milan Int. guitar competition; Lubljana Int. Music competition for all disciplines of classical music; international Villa de Petrer Guitar Competition in Spain; international Krycnitsa Guitar Competition in Poland; Belgrade International Guitar Festival, among others, and regularly gives master classes at international guitar festivals and universities such as Seoul University for Arts-Korea, San Francisco University, CA-USA, Monterrey-Mexico, Volos-Greece, Barcelona-Spain, etc.

He is also a regular guest at festivals such as Belgrade Int. Guitar Festival, the Oulu Int. Orchestral Music Season in Finland, San Francisco Int. Guitar Festival, Aix en Musique Int. Music Festival in Aix en Provence, France, Uppsala International Guitar Festival, etc. In September 2006 Marco Tamayo received the "Citadinanza Onoraria", honorary citizen of the city of Alessandria, in Piedmont, Italy, and collaborates with Alirio Diaz and wife Micaela Pittaluga for the artistic Management of the International Michele Pittaluga Guitar Competition, Cita di Alessandria, where he won first prize in 1999. Tamayo is also co-artistic director with Ms. Pittaluga of the Chitarra dal Mondo music festival held in the Italian city.
Marco Tamayo records for Naxos Classical and has, among other things, an album dedicated to the music of Cuba, the music of Mauro Giuliani and also the guitar music of Niccolo Paganini.
