Harald Herzl

Harald Herzl studied with Sandor Vegh in Salzburg and with the members of the Amadeus Quartet in Cologne. He is primarius of the Pro Arte Quartet Salzburg, received competition prizes in Helsinki and Hanover and undertook extensive concert tours to the most important music metropolises and festivals in Europe and Asia, Vienna, among others in the Great Music Association Hall, Budapest, Bucharest, Paris, London, Berlin, Athens and many others A tour of Israel in 1989 and his highly acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1991 were followed by regular appearances at the Salzburg Mozart Week and joint performances with artists such as Wolfgang and Sabine Meyer, Olli Mustonen, Dimitris Sgouros, Paul Meyer, Martin Lovett, Jörg Demus and Hansjörg Schellenberger and others.  

Exclusive contract with BMG/RCA Viktor for the recording of all Mozart string quartets. CDs with EMI, Preiser Records and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi. Since 2000 professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since 2004 head of the department for strings at the Mozarteum University.

As a soloist, he has appeared at the Salzburg Mozart Week and in the Great Festival Hall with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra.

In 2007 he founded the Mozarteum String Trio Salzburg together with Thomas Riebl and Susanna Ehn-Riebl.

Annual invitations to Japan, Korea and China as a soloist and sought-after chamber musician.

Lecturer in international master classes and juror at major competitions in Austria, Germany, Italy, Norway, Armenia, Japan and China.

His students are extremely successful. This is documented, among other things, by a laureate at the Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels in 2015, prizewinners in international competitions such as the Ruggiero-Ricci Competition in Salzburg (1st prize 2009), the Brahms Competition in Pörtschach/Austria (1st prize 2010), "String-player of the year" - "Ian Stoutzker Prize in Memory of Yehudi Menuhin" (2012), Leopold Mozart Competition in Augsburg (3rd prize 2013), International Arthur Grumiaux Competition in Belgium (3rd prize 2014) and Remember Enescu International Violin Competition ( 1st prize 2015), as well as the Mozart Competition Salzburg 2016 (2nd prize).
His former student Johanna Zaunschirm was accepted into the orchestra of the Munich Philharmonic in 2018, Michael Schmid was engaged in the orchestra of the Dresden Staatskapelle.
Thomas Reif won the audition in the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in 2018 and earned the position of first concertmaster.
In January 2019, his current student Mohammedjan Sharipov received the Pau Roczek Award 2018, which is endowed with 10,000 euros.

Harald Herzl plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, Turin around 1770, from the Oesterreichische Nationalbank's collection of valuable stringed instruments.
