Teaching is not a skill that - once learned - only needs to be applied. It is an art that requires lifelong practice and continuous engagement with students, the instrument, and a variety of pedagogical factors. Martin Losert shows, based on simple models of analysis and planning, to what extent one's own pedagogical convictions, artistic ability, learning and practicing competencies, communicative-human skills, as well as the development, maturation, socialization and special talents of students and teachers play a role in teaching. Based on existing research, a wealth of suggestions for practice are derived.
