What role do the arts, students and universities play in shaping a sustainable future? The Arts of Change - Change of Arts coaching and support programme is entering its fifth round! Between March and November 2024, around 20 art students will once again have the opportunity to engage intensively with the topics of "Art, Sustainability and Transformation" and become active themselves.

The focus is on networking students from all six Austrian art academies, exchange/networking opportunities with artists and academics and the accompanied realisation of trans- and interdisciplinary art projects as part of three compulsory core modules. For the first time this year, there will be an extended third module with work opportunities in the spaces of the Hirschbach textile factory and the cultural barn of the Livingrooms association in Pürbach.

Participation is free of charge; travel, accommodation and catering costs during the three core modules are also included.

What participants can expect:

Three core modules (building on each other; compulsory participation):

  • Module 1: 15-17 March 2024 (getting to know each other & project identification) in Vienna (mdw) - two and a half workshop days
  • Module 2: 3-5 May 2024 (project work, group dynamics & socio-ecological transformation) in Vienna (Academy of Fine Arts) - half-day biodiversity spade walk with Isa Klee and two workshop days
  • Module 3: 23-27.9.2024 (project finalisation, perspective & networking opportunities) in Hirschbach and Pürbach, Waldviertel, Lower Austria - two workshop days and three days of free project work in the Hirschbach textile factory and the cultural barn of the Livingrooms association (publicly accessible by S-Bahn)

Between the modules:

  • Support in the realisation of an artistic project together with other students until November 2024 & financial support for material expenses (funding per head, varies depending on the size of the project group)
  • Exchange/networking opportunities with experts and artists

Networking with other motivated and committed art students (approx. 20 participants in total) and alumni from the past four Arts of Change years.

Exhibition opportunities:

  • in October 2024 as part of the Consumer Dialogues on Water in Steyr, Upper Austria 
  • in winter 2024/25 depending on space availability at the participating universities
