Eight Austrian universities have made it into the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The Mozarteum University reached 12th place in the Performing Arts category, ranking 9th in Europe and still second in the German-speaking world.

The World University Ranking, published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), is a ranking of currently 1001 universities.

The QS World University Ranking also includes two indicators based on subjective ratings, a survey of academics (Academic Reputation) and a survey of employers (Employer Reputation). The Academic Reputation Index accounts for 40% of the calculated total score for universities, while the Employer Reputation accounts for 10%. The student/faculty ratio and the citations per faculty each count for 20%, and the internationality of the faculty and students is weighted at 5%.
