Founding and shaping an ensemble is one  of the most demanding and at the same time most appealing challenges of artistic  development. Many internationally successful ensembles have formed during their  studies and laid the foundation for an  international career. Currently existing study  programs at university, however, can only  provide limited incentives and a framework for  such development.

The Ensemble Scholarship tries to bridge this gap: convincing project applications receive financial support for the realization of specific artistic projects (performances, concerts) for a period of one year. A commission from various artistic disciplines will select and award ensembles according to the criteria set out in the conditions of the call for applications.

The Mozarteum University Salzburg also supports the ensembles with concert engagements,
infrastructure, and mentoring/coaching, which are provided individually depending on the ensemble and project.

For whom?

  • for ensembles of at least 3 people (exception: piano duo and song duo)
  • 50% of the group must be either active students or former students of the Mozarteum University Salzburg who graduated less than 2 years ago. 
  • External persons may only supplement the groups. 
  • lnterdisciplinary ensembles are welcome (e.g. actors and musicians etc.).

The nationality of the applicants is irrelevant.

Amount of the grant:

  • 3,000€ to 6,000€, depending on the size of the ensemble and the project
  • Paid out in 2 installments:
    • 1st payment after the selection
    • 2nd installment after completion of the project by 30.4.2025

The following must be submitted:

  • Biography, group photo and name of the ensemble
  • Curriculum vitae and photo of all ensemble members 
  • Academic records of all ensemble members
  • Description of the specific project concept, including timetable (max. 3000 characters, including spaces) 
  • Cost breakdown and financing plan
  • All ensemble members are obliged to participate in the presentation of the ensemble on April 8, 2024 (15:00-20:00) in Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg 
  • Selection of one (1) contact person to act on behalf of and in the best conscience of the group (incl. management of finances). Selection criteria for the contact person:
    • the person must be an active student or alumnus/alumna of the Mozarteum
      University Salzburg who graduated less than 2 years ago.
  • The group agrees to play together for at least one (1) year and undertakes to
    carry out the submitted concept successfully by all possible means.

Criteria for the selection of scholarship holders:

  • To what extent is the concept convincing in terms of the artistic development and profile of the ensemble?
  • To what extent is the ensemble's profile convincing artistically (especially with regard to originality, quality standards, creativity and innovation potential 
  • The selection or award is made by a commission from various artistic disciplines according to the criteria set out in the terms of application. 
  • lncomplete applications will not be considered. 
  • There is no legal entitlement to the award of a scholarship. Notification of acceptances and rejections will be communicated via e-mail after the decision.
  • The number of scholarships to be awarded depends on the available funding.
