The Senate of the Mozarteum University joins the protests against a closure of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra with all vehemence. The RSO Vienna forms an indispensable building block of the Austrian cultural scene and functions especially and above all in the field of new music as an important commissioner and premiere performer.

Equipped with this immense importance for all contemporary composers and musicians, this orchestra must not fall victim to the austerity pencil!

A dissolution would be a massive damage for the cultural nation of Austria. Financing must be secured for such a traditional, yet modern and highly flexible professional orchestra, which successfully acts as Austria's cultural ambassador and as an important partner for numerous concert and opera organizers. It is the only orchestra in Austria with a rich tradition that is led by a female principal conductor and that implements the still necessary promotion of women in a committed manner, also with regard to the performance of works by female composers.

As practicing musicians and concertgoers, students and teachers - represented by the Senate of the Mozarteum University - we demand the financial security of the RSO Vienna and the preservation of jobs for the current and future musicians and conductors working in this orchestra!
