Birke Sturm studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna as well as English studies at the University of Regensburg, the University of Vienna and the University of Aberdeen. Since 2009 she taught art education and English at the Lauder Chabad Campus Vienna. In 2016 she completed her doctorate with a thesis on the discourse history of physical beauty in modern times at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she has been a lecturer at the Institute for Art Teaching since 2015. Since 2021 she has been part of the visual education team at the Mozarteum University Salzburg as an assistant professor.

Her research interests lie in the areas of visual culture, visual literacy, image and cultural studies, art education and didactics and cultural education.
