Volker Wahl was born in Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia and studied theater and German in Vienna. Afterwards he worked as an assistant director at the Volksoper in Vienna and went to drama schools in Vienna and Los Angeles. From 1996 to 2012 he was an ensemble member of the Schauspielhaus Salzburg. He has been a freelance actor and director since 2012 and has worked e.g. at the Salzburg Festival, at the Rome Opera House, at the La Scala in Milan, at the Bozen United Stages, at the Baden stage or at the Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl. He worked among others with Peter Stein, Alvis Hermanis, Simon Stone, Christine Mielitz, Riccardo Muti, Ingo Metzmacher and Franz Welser-Möst. Since 2018 he has been teaching music drama, performance training, acting and improvisation at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
