Andreas Johannes Winkler, born 1974 in Koblenz/Germany, started playing piano at the age of eight and took his first steps in composition only a few years later. He was a creative member of the German Indie Rock band „The Fluids“ (1997–2008; including tours in England and Spain).

Winkler studied composition and music theory at the Musikhochschule Köln with Johannes Schild and Friedrich Jaecker (2007-12) and was co-founder of the Cologne-based composers group called „zeitKlang“. With „zeitKlang“, and beyond, there are some ten projects a year, mainly chamber music, piano music and songs. This involves co-operations with several ensembles from the rich chamber and Neue Musik scene, for instance ensemble corrélatif, A-Trio, and ensemble unterwegs. Premieres of his works are and were heard in Germany, France, and Romania (piano concerto, with Denis Ivanov & Pitesti Filarmonia).

2014–16, he has held teaching positions for music theory, ear training and musical analysis in several music universities in Germany including Cologne, Herford and Würzburg. Since 2016, he is Senior Lecturer at Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria, in Department I (conducting, music theory, and composition).

He presently lives in Cologne and Salzburg.
