Lecturer in Historical Scenic-gestural Performance Practice

Margit Legler was born in Vienna. Her dance training includes classical ballet, several modern techniques, jazz dance, Spanish dance, historical dances. She was a Member of the ballet of the Vienna State Opera. She specialized in historical performance practices (dance, singing, acting) and participated in both contemporary and baroque choreography.  

She has staged baroque operas for the Tokyo College of Music, the Halle Handel Festival, the Ballenstedt Palace Theater, the Lambach Baroque Theater and the Mozarteum. She performs as a singer and dancer in the spirit of historical performance practice. Legler taught at workshops in Austria and all over Europe.  

From 1989 to 2009 she held a teaching position in historical theater dance for singers at the University of Music in Vienna. Since 2006 she has been teaching historical dance at the private university in Vienna and since 2010 at the ballet academy of the Vienna State Opera. She has been a lecturer in historical acting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2011. Since 2015 she has been a professor of historical dance and period acting techniques at the Music and Art University in Vienna.
