Michael Widmer studied social pedagogy with a focus on music and theater and completed a guest degree in elementary music and dance education at the Orff Institute. He works with handicapped people, children, adolescents and families. He works in pedagogical education and training in Austria, Germany, Russia, Poland, Romania, Italy, Spain, China, Taiwan, South Korea and the USA. He has been a freelance theater maker for and with children, families and adults since the 1980s. He is also a member of various ensembles. For many years he has performed as clown "Michelino" with the Clown Doctors in the children's clinic of the Salzburg State Hospital. In 1995 he founded the Theater aus dem Koffer with 20 productions and international guest performances to date, and in 1998 the also founded the Theater Box, a series for children's and family theater in Hallein.

Lectureships have taken him to the universities of applied sciences for social education in Bochum and Wiesbaden, to the German Federal Youth Music Academies, to state teacher training centers and in 1989 to the Mozarteum University Salzburg (Orff Institute). He has been a contract teacher at the Mozarteum University since 2002 and teaches didactics, didactic internship, instrument making, ensemble including band, models of music and dance education in social work and integrative pedagogy and the basics of social work. At the Orff Institute, he leads and participates in various summer courses and university courses in music and dance education.
