Manuela Widmer was born in Detmold in 1952. After studying at the Orff Institute and further training with Lilli Friedemann, she was working six years as a teacher for early music education and basic training at the Hamburg Youth Music School and at the Hamburg Conservatory. She also worked as a rhythmic and music teacher at the Hanover Music School and Leipzig Music School and at the University of Bremen. She also studied pedagogy at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg.

Since 1975 she has been working in further education for teachers and has been giving lecturers in Austria, Germany, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Hungary, USA, Romania, Russia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, China and Japan. In 2010 she published her doctor thesis about "The Pedagogy of the Orff Institute". She is a freelance consultant for training and further education at various institutions in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

From 1984 until her retirement in 2012, she worked as a university lecturer for didactics, teaching practice and history of music and movement education at the Orff Institute. In addition, she taught the early musical education and movement and dance in early musical education at the Institute for Music Education. She is currently a teacher for elemental music and dance pedagogy at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and as a freelancer.
