Reinhard Blum was born in Vorarlberg in 1966, studied music education and instrumental music education in Innsbruck, instrumental and vocal pedagogy as well as piano and piano chamber music with Alfons Kontarsky at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

He works as a piano accompanist and gives solo and chamber music concerts. He composes and arranges works and deals with the conception and implementation of (school) film music projects. He also works as a speaker at training events.

From 1990 he taught at the Innsbruck Music School. Since 1997 he has been a contract teacher for piano practice, solo accompaniment, general instrumental didactics as well as theory and practice of film music at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

Blum's research and teaching focuses on instrumental didactic, piano methodological and educational science issues in the field of practical piano playing. As chairman of the curriculum commission for the teaching of music education and instrumental music education, he helped to shape several curricular transformation and further development processes. He is a member of the Senate of the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

In 2019 his projekt „voice & piano“ – Artistic-music paedagogic personal development and school practical piano (in cooperation with Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Christian Kraler, university Innsbruck) was nominated in the category „Forschungsbezogene bzw. kunstgeleitete Lehre“ for Ars Docendi Staatspreis für exzellente Lehre ("Shortlist").
