Grenzklang is a practical training program for future music teachers.
The joint intercultural learning envisaged in the project ideally leads to an attitude of all participants, which is the basis for social progress and enables teaching and learning in diversity, equality and democracy. It thus functions as a model for further (music-)pedagogical and intercultural offers. Synergy is an essential feature and Grenzklang contributes to strengthening the cultural identity of all participants.
The choir is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 12. The families of the children (some of them with refugee experience) are members of the Iranian Cultural Association Tyrol, whose goal is, among other things, to preserve and pass on Persian cultural heritage to the next generation. In addition, the foundation of a women's choir is planned. Through the choir work, women from the Persian region, who are/were often subjected to patriarchal structures, should be offered a musical education. The aim is to strengthen their personality and independence, as well as to offer a suitable musical education and thus to integrate them actively in social life - in the sense of freedom and equality of all people.
The project will start with a choir for children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old with Persian background. The choir Ava (voice in Persian) is a project of the Iranian Cultural Association and was founded under the direction of Mrs. Anita Mohammadi, a teacher for Farsi. The choir consists of members of the Iranian Cultural Association Tyrol , whose goal is, among other things, the preservation and transmission of Persian cultural heritage to the next generation and was taken over in January for the project by Heike Henning (collaboration: Maria Ploner, Christian Wegscheider).
The children immerse themselves in the different cultures and experience them as equal and complementary. This is also to be heard, seen and experienced in (online) concerts of the choir. By means of multilingual public performances, in which, among other things, different cultural areas are presented, the public is made aware of this project. Furthermore, it can encourage the development of intercultural choirs in other regions in order to include as many children, young people and adults from different cultural backgrounds as possible in the corresponding musical offerings. The long-term goal is to make the choir intercultural and to recruit new children from different cultural backgrounds.
The first rehearsals of the children's choir started in mid-January and had to be held online due to the current circumstances. Due to the strongly diverging ages of the children and young people, the choir was divided into two groups, so that age-appropriate song material can be worked on and thus the best possible choir practice can be guaranteed.
Choir rehearsals always take place on Tuesdays from 17:00-18:00 in the Haus der Musik Innsbruck, 5 floor.
In addition to the children's choir, there is an adult choir that takes place at regular times. This gives adults and parents of the children in the children's choir the opportunity to make music together. The intercultural choir is aimed at adults who enjoy singing and learning together. In this choir, too, songs from different cultures and countries are worked on and played together. No previous experience is necessary!
Since the Intercultural Choir rehearses at the same time as the Ava Children's Choir, it is ideal for families.

Making music together keeps you young! The ensemble for musicians 60+/- with tolerance for all age groups welcomes all instruments and creates a pleasant atmosphere to support the artistic events in the best possible way. The repertoire covers many styles, from the centuries to the present day.
Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 18:15 to 19:45 in the Haus der Musik, 5th floor. (Access is barrier-free)
The Ensemble Grenzklang is an inter- and transcultural ensemble that has set itself the goal of performing music from the cultures of the participants. Pieces of music from different cultures of the participants, some of which vary each semester, are performed on the instruments available to us. The instrumentation is varied and open to all instruments (e.g. Western and Arabic instruments). The pieces are arranged and adapted per project for the existing instrumentation.
The aim is, among other things, to get to know different cultures, to let instruments and music from all over the world sound together and to connect cultures. In the last project in winter term 22/23, three songs from the Turkish cultural area were arranged and performed with classical instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, piano) and traditional instruments (saz and drums).

On the other hand, Grenzklang is a practical training program for future music teachers. Since the project is linked to the training of future music teachers by the Mozarteum Salzburg (Department of Music Education Innsbruck), it functions as a model for further intercultural offers. Students can be trained in a practice-oriented way by participating in the choir project and can be won as multipliers for intercultural choir work.
One component of the project is the development of a song material prepared for intercultural singing. Since music from this cultural area is hardly accessible as notations, the song material must first be determined, notated, arranged and translated into German and retexted. For this purpose, various songbooks from the Persian cultural area are collected and the song material is analyzed and categorized according to the target group. Songs suitable for the children's choir area will be translated and provided with their own notation, in which the original song text will be reproduced aloud and supplemented with German song text.
The resulting song sheets will be made available to intercultural choirs, music teachers and the general public here on this website, so that projects of this kind are also possible at other locations. Thus, this choir project serves as a best practice model.
The idea to develop bilingual songs, which can be sung in Farsi and in German, was kindly supported by the composer Peter Schindler. From the song treasures of Iran and Afghanistan or texts from the Persian language area, songs are to be composed or recorded bilingually and phonetically in the course of the project.
Our first song Wie der Frühling was composed by Peter Schilder for our project in Farsi and German. He only used a poem in Farsi, its transcription and translation and a voice recording for sound performance as a model.
The choir rehearsals of the children's and adult choirs take place every Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Haus der Musik Innsbruck, 5th floor (lecture hall and chamber music hall 1).
