In his oratorio "Paulus", premiered in 1836, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy paid his respects to the baroque masters and dealt with the life and work of the apostle Paul, his career from Saul to Paul.
Mozarteum UniChor Universitätschor Dresden Sinfonieorchester Universität Mozarteum Jörn Andresen, conductor Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847), one of the most important composers and conductors of the Romantic period, championed the rediscovery of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach or Georg Friedrich Händel like no other. In his oratorio "Paulus", premiered in 1836, he paid tribute to the baroque masters and dealt with the life and work of the apostle Paul, his development from Saul to Paul.
Jörn Andresen, professor of choral conducting at the Mozarteum since 2019, ventures a new rehearsal of the popular church music work with a total of 210 participants. He gathers soloists of the Department of Voice, the Mozarteum UniChoir and the University Choir Dresden. The instrumental part of the oratorio is performed by the Mozarteum University Symphony Orchestra.
