Professor Elisabeth Freiss

Studied the art of tapestry, artistic teacher training for textile design and craftwork followed by doctoral studies at the Institute of Artistic Teacher Training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

Teacher of textile design, craftwork and technical crafts at higher educational establishments; teacher of the didactics of material culture at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg; senior scientist at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna / Institute of Artistic Teacher Training.


Professor of specialist didactics in textile design and craftwork at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 2017.


Main areas of research: handicraft and fashion in the construction of gender and nation; strategies for do-it-yourself/together.


Several lectures and publications such as "Die Semiologie der Strickjacke" or "Die Wiener Handarbeit als nationales Leitbild".
