Elisabeth Schmirl was born in 1980 and studied philosophy and Russian at the University of Salzburg as well as painting, graphics and new media at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Stays abroad and scholarships have taken her to Hungary, Germany, France, Great Britain and the USA. She has been running her own printing workshop since 2002 and has been chairwoman of periscope since 2006. Since 2006 she has been working independently as a visual artist with exhibitions in Austria and abroad. From 2008 to 2013 she was an assistant and from 2014 to 2015 a lecturer at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2010 she has been a member of the Advisory Board for Fine Arts, a member of the board of the umbrella association for Salzburg cultural institutions and a member of the supervisory board of the Residenzgalerie. She has been a professor for graphics and painting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2015.
