From 1984 to 1985 Peter Schmidt received jazz and rock guitar lessons at the Munich Guitar Institute and then he was taught classical guitar at the vocational school for music in Dinkelsbühl. In 1987 he began studying audio and visual engineering at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, which he completed in 1993. From 2013 to 2017 he completed his PhD in musicology with honors at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He worked as a freelancer for two years at the WDR Cologne, at the Landesstudio Dortmund (WDR) and at the Theater Dortmund. He also worked in various recording studios. In 1994 he got a permanent job at PRO 7 in Munich as a audio and visual engineer. From 1994 to 2008 he worked at the Dortmund theater as the head of the sound department. Since 2008 he has been head of the deprtment digital media/MediaLab at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. He is responsible for audio and video productions and documentation. Since 2010 he has also been a lecturer at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
