University Professor in Singing and Didactics

Norbert Prasser comes from the province of Upper Austria. While a grammar-school pupil at the Petrinum Kollegium in Linz he was a solo choirboy and had his first singing lessons and also organ lessons at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz.


After studying briefly at the Academy of Theology in Linz, he decided in 1971 to transfer to the Mozarteum University where he studied lied and oratorio, educational theory of singing and music education. He had further training with Liselotte Egger and later with Karlheinz Jarius in Frankfurt.


He has taught singing in the field of music educational theory at the Mozarteum University since 1975. As a representative of the academic non-professorial teaching staff he was a member of committees and involved in university politics for many years. Parallel to this he continued his artistic career as a concert singer and member of several vocal ensembles. He performs as a soloist mainly in oratorios, in particular in Germany and Switzerland.


In 2000 he was appointed as university professor. At the Mozarteum University in addition to singing he teaches the subjects didactic theory of singing as well as teaching practice.
