Werner Neugebauer was born 1967 in Graz and studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Irmgard Gahl, where he received his degree with distinction in 1991 and was awarded a spezial prize from the Austrian Government. He went on studying the violin with Ernst Kovavic in Vienna. At the same time he became interested in playing the baroque violin as well as performance practice under the guardianship of Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

In 1993 he became a member of Camerata Salzburg under Sandor Vegh. Since then he has also performed extensively with many ensembles of international repute such as Klangforum Wien, Concentus Musicus and Ensemble Baroque de Limoges. In 1998 he became a member of the Hyperion Ensemble. This String Sextett hosted its own concert series at the International Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg and also performs at Konzerthaus Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Stephaniensaal Graz, Yale University, Beethovenhaus Bonn and the Musikverein Vienna. Werner Neugebauer has been playing at many famous Chambermusic festivals such as Styriarte, Tartini Festival, Mozartwoche Salzburg and many others. 2013 he founded the Piano Trio Trio Fontaine.

Since 1993 Werner has been teaching at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, starting as an assistent of Irmgard Gahl, Benjamin Schmid an Lukas Hagen. Since 2006 he teaches hes own students in the field of PreCollege and Violin pedagogics. He plays a violin by Francesco Rugieri from 1696, lent from prince of Starhemberg.
