Kurt Hüttinger was born on 12 June 1956 in Salzburg.  He studied at what was then still the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg. He gained the qualification to teach the piano in 1977; he was awarded his diploma as a concert pianist in 1981.  He received a grant from Bösendorfer.  He took part in master-classes.

From 1981 to 2000 he was guest professor and director of  a class of artistic training for piano at the department of music education in Innsbruck.  At the same time, from 1983 to 1985, he had a teaching contract at the department of keyboard instruments in Salzburg. He has been professor of piano (including teaching for solo répétiteurs) at the department of music educational theory in Innsbruck.

He gives concerts in Austria and abroad as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.  He has made radio recordings, including the first recordings of several works.

He is a member of the expert advisory committee Prima la Musica of the province of Tyrol. He is a long-standing jury member of the Prima la Musica competition in Tyrol, recently also in Vienna and Lower Austria.

Since the end of the 1980s he has been increasingly active in functions and on boards of the University Mozarteum Salzburg, for instance from 1988 to 1992 and also from 1996 to 2000 he was director of the department of music education in Innsbruck (during this period he was also a member of the general collegium); from October 2000 to January 2004 he was chairman of the music educational institute in Innsbruck.  He was chairman from 1992 to 1994 and again from 2011 to 2018 and on several occasions deputy chairman of the study commission for the courses in music education and teaching an instrument.

He was a member of the university assembly in 2000.

From 2000 to 2003 he was deputy vice-chancellor of the University Mozarteum Salzburg (remits: Innsbruck branch, evaluation, academic management, quality development).

Kürt Hüttinger is a member of various appointment and post-doctoral commissions at the University of Music and Performing Art in Vienna.

He has been a member of the senate since 2003.  He has been deputy director of studies since 2004 and in this function mainly responsible for the organization of courses and examinations in the IGP course in cooperation with the Regional Conservatory of Tyrol.

Kurt Hüttinger has been deputy chairman of the senate since 2009 - 2013.

From 2004 - 2018 deputy had teacher, in this position since 2006 mainly responsible for the organisation of teaching and exam operation for the department of instrumental and singing education in cooperation with the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium.
