Preparation course violoncello

Participation in the preparatory course “violoncello instrumental studies” in the Department of String Instruments at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg is an associate course and no tuition fees have to be paid.

The aim of the course is to prepare talented young people at an early age for the enrolment exam for the full time course.

Students can enrol already before the age of fifteen and at the latest up to completion of their 20th year.

In order to be eligible to enrol, exceptional talent and physical suitability have to be proven, and an enrolment exam has to be passed.  Relevant instrumental skills on the organ or piano have to be proved by playing an audition of several pieces from various stylistic epochs, as well as general musical skills by means of a practical aural text and the answering of questions on music.

The course comprises 2 semester hours in the Central Artistic Main Subject and 1.5  semester hours in music theory, aural training and exercises in rhythm.  Classes in theory should be started where possible from the age of 12 and last four semesters.

The preparatory course in instrumental studies lasts until the enrolment exam for a full time degree course has been passed, at the latest until the student has reached the age of 20.

The Central Artistic Subject is to be evaluated at the end of an uneven semester by the course director; at the end of an even semester an examination has to be taken before a board.
The compulsory subjects music theory, aural training and exercises in rhythm are completed each semester in the form of examinations in the teaching unit.
