On Sunday 12 July 2014, an excursion – starting after the Business meeting at 11.30am from the coach station in Paris-Lodron-Road (opposite the university) – will take you to the famous Großglockner High Alpine Road, built by Franz Wallack in the 1930s as a masterwork of mountain-road-construction. Having passed 36 hairpin bends we will reach our destination more than 2.500 meters above sea-level. The coach-tour offers beautiful views on Austria's highest mountain and the glacier below, and there is a good chance to see some marmots, too. We will stop for panoramic views, a quick lunch (not included in the prize) and will visit the Gothic church at Heiligenblut in Carinthia with its 11 meter high main altar from about 1520. Estimated arrival time in Salzburg: 7pm.

In case of rainy weather (to say, with the Alpine panorama hiding in clouds) we will make a tour to the Salzkammergut, where the church of St. Wolfgang is located which was a frequented destination of pilgrimages in Medieval Times and still hosts a wonderful Gothic winged altar. The tour will then continue to Bad Ischl where you will have the opportunity for a quick lunch (not included in the prize). We will visit the so called “Kaiservilla”, the place where Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elizabeth usually resided during their summer holidays. On the way back we would finally stop at Mondsee, a former monastery whose church houses a lot of precious Baroque sculptures. Estimated arrival time in Salzburg: 7pm.
