Business Meeting



The business meeting as an integral part of the International Biennial Conference on Baroque Music will take place as final event on Sunday 13 July 2014 at 10.00am, Studienkonzertsaal, setting the following agenda:
  • Chairman's report concerning academic, organisational and financial issues
  • Delegates' feedback about the organisation and formal concerns of the event
  • Organising Committee's response to any issues raised by the delegates
  • Presentation of bids to host the next conference followed by vote
For the success of forthcoming conferences we would kindly ask as many delegates as possible to attend the business meeting.


To host the next conference

Hosting the Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music as a major conference brings significant benefit to the hosting organisation, including wide publicity, recognition of the research base associated with the conference, and the opportunity to network with international researchers.

If you are interested in hosting the 17th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music, you should obtain permission from your institution in advance of the business meeting. You will be invited to make a short presentation (not more than 10 minutes), using PowerPoint if desired.

The following points may be of help in formulating your bid:

  • Host country, city and institution
    • Attractions of your country/city/institution as an attractive host for the next Baroque conference
    • Description of the host institution including the kinds of resources it might bring to an organising effort
  • Accessibility of location for international delegates
    • Transport links
    • Nearest airport(s)
    • Number and frequency of international flights
    • Shuttle service/public transportations from the airport to the conference venue
  • Conference facilities
    • Site specification and capacity
    • Technical support (PowerPoint/overhead projectors, sound systems, microphones)
    • Website
    • Catering
  • Institutional support
    • Staff expertise and commitment
    • Administrative and logistical support available
  • Financial planning
    • Estimates for attendee costs (airfares from select capital cities, accommodation costs)
    • A rough estimate of the costs to the host institution and how they will be covered
    • potential sources of funding/sponsorship
  • Accommodation
    • Types of accommodation (student, residential, hotel)
    • Availability in a variety of price ranges to accommodate those travelling on a limited budget
    • Location relative to the conference venue and accessibility
  • Any other relevant details
    • Potential for concerts and complementary events
    • Prior personal or institutional experience in hosting conferences or meetings of similar magnitude
    • Potential theme(s) and keynote speakers

If you intend to make a presentation at the business meeting, please email your initial 'expression of interest' to the Organising Committee at icbm@moz.ac.at by 13 June 2014.

In case you want to show a PowerPoint presentation: The PCs currently use WindowsXP operating system and Microsoft Office 2010.

Two notes to Mac users:
  1. If you want to make use of a Mac Laptop, please bring the appropriate adapter with you.
  2. If you are going to set your presentation with the help of Mac programmes and will bring it on a portable storage device (USB stick, DVD, CD-ROM, etc.), you may wish to send it to us in advance of the conference to ensure that there are no compatibility issues.
The decision made at the business meeting will be announced on the website of the 16th Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music.
